Meet Athena Stefanou

Athena Stefanou is a proud lifelong Cincinnatian with deep roots in the community and a strong commitment to fairness, integrity, and public service. Raised in a close-knit family of first-generation immigrants, Athena learned the values of hard work, compassion, and community service from an early age. She grew up helping her grandparents run their restaurant in Cheviot. Today, her 86-year-old grandmother still runs that same restaurant and serves as a reminder of the work ethic and resilience that continues to inspire Athena.

Those early lessons in service have shaped Athena’s entire career.  Athena earned her business degree as a Carl H. Lindner Honors-PLUS Scholar at the University of Cincinnati. She went on to earn her law degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Law, further deepening her commitment to serving her hometown.

Athena began her legal career as a public defender, representing individuals in need of strong and fair legal representation. She has tried a wide range of criminal cases and brings a deep understanding of the courtroom to her work.

Currently serving as Chief of Court Operations, Athena has led critical reforms to improve access to justice. She spearheaded efforts to expedite protection orders for victims in danger and trained courthouse staff on Marsy’s Law to ensure their privacy as victims of violent crime.

Athena’s broad experience—both in the courtroom and in clerk of court administration—uniquely qualifies her to serve as a firm but fair municipal court judge. She is committed to modernizing the courthouse, treating everyone with dignity and respect, and making the justice system more accessible for all.

When she’s not working, you’ll find Athena playing tennis, volleyball, gardening, or spending time with her family and friends.

Athena Stefanou is ready to bring integrity, experience, and a lifelong dedication to community to the bench.
